Since 2009, the wrx now pretty much has the same motor as well as turbo as the STI. Only a couple of things a different. Power-wise they are pretty much identical now, with the wrx being faster in 0-60 due to the 5-speed. With the sti you have to do another shift which kills that time. Yeah, people that bought the 2008 pretty much got fucked over. In terms of power, yes the wrx is faster but that doesn't mean the gti is slow. The gti still has a great motor. Glad you are considering a wrx, what are you looking for? Sedan or hatchback?

I would love to get another hawkeye but I will have to get a new car. New bodystyle Sti's are still pretty steep in price.

The 2008 model has the same motor as the 2006-2007 models with about 225hp, whereas the 2009 and up have the more powerful 265hp motor.

I have not driven the gti, but I have driven the wrx as well as the lancer. The lancer wasn't actually that bad, but I prefer the wrx in pretty much every category.

Exactly.

go drive the GTI, it is so much better than comparing things on paper! Curious to hear what you think. You like the 2 or 4 door? I really like the new GTI body style but the WRX is really fast (wtf 265 hp, that's news to me), and AWD (safer, one of the main reasons I'm happy to have AWD). Interior is important but the WRX interior is still a step up from previous gen WRX interiors...although I agree it's not as nice as the GTI interior...its just one of those things unfortunately Subaru can't really do right yet.

AWD really isn't much safer in florida, it doesn't help your stopping any and no hills or anything to lose traction on.

The GTI can run 13's with just bolt-ons so it's not super slow either and has a very nice interior.

i would take the gti honestly. they have really come along way with them in the past 3 years.

if you plan on buying or would just like to have a honest discussion with a real car guy thats a sales men let me know.my buddy john casco works at vw of fort myers and autocrosses his r32 all the time.he'll treat you right and obviously know some facts about the car.

if you do get the gti let me know because i can do revo flashes with custom tunes for much less than vap can.

overall they are quick fun to drive cars and you get a good quality ride for a decent price

The 08 had the new body style but less power then 09 10.

I just keep going back to every car review Ive ever read about a gti, if you are buying it as a performance car you will be disappointed. What the gti is commonly compared to performance wise is a civic si.

Those bolt ons are about 3k for a homebuilt turbo kit or 5k+ for a apr kit. They include big turbo 1k, full exhaust 1k, tp 150, injectors $300, tune $500, intercooler 1k. Its not super slow but all that reliability just got thrown out the window.

Wrx will do 13's stock.

-Coming from someone who loves vag cars and is wanting a subaru. - Anything you can tell me to steer me away from the wrx.
