The rear wing is to open the wormhole and initial time travel.

apparently the damn thing worked though:

t the Redline Time Attack over the weekend, competitors and fans alike shared puzzlement over the aerodynamics of Chris Rado's Scion TC. Like today's Formula 1 cars, or, more appropriately, the "cow catcher" on the Lola T260 of the 1970's, the black TC sported a front wing.

And what a wing it was. Despite a bevy of mechanical and electric issues -- we understand the team swapped engines over the weekend -- Rado ran a 1:22.623 lap around the track, breaking the front-wheel drive record, which Rado set last year according to World Racing staff. The TC also happened to surpass a number of rear-drive sports cars, and take fifth overall and first in the front-drive class.

The wing can't take full credit. According to Rado's Web site, the TC produces above 700 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque from its inline-four, using JE pistons, Carrillo rods, and a turbocharger from Bullseye Power. Putting the power to the ground is a Xtrac six-speed and 18-in. HRE wheels shod with Hankook rubber.

Keep any eye out for the TC as the series progresses. The next Redline Time Tack takes place at New Jersey Motorsports Park on June 12.
